SPARKS ISSUE 1
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Comments: Sparks one of the supers turns up with a story to relate. His origin is one of basically what if a normal person became a super. His struggle is hard. It is nice to see though the determination that is shown as he wants to help and protect the innocent from those who would prey on them.

The art does definitely have an ameteurish look to it. The style though is still eye catching with a gritty hard hitting look. Some of the scenes do show a lot of promise and give you a look at just how good this artist can and could be.

The Lady and Sparks work well together. The build up to a dramatic confrontation will stimulate you.

The basic story following Sparks and his career is compelling as it could actually happen. The story has action, romance and tragedy. Sparks is your everyday guy that you can easily identify with. The character does grab your attention"

SPARKS ISSUE 1
Rating: 3.5/5

William Katt joins the ranks of the "celebrity" comic book creators with Sparks, a drama about a superhero who has fallen from grace -- and fallen about as far as he can go. People who remember Katt from The Greatest American Hero will find this comic is about as far from that premise as you can get. The story begins with Sparks -- a beaten, battered hero -- stumbling into a newspaper office to report his own murder. From there, most of the issue bounces back in time to his origin and, more importantly, the girl he meets who will ultimately define his career. In short, it's another superhero "deconstruction," like we haven't seen enough of those. This one is better than most, though. So far the series hasn't really been about taking apart the idea of a superhero, but instead focuses on the supposed murder mystery, which is a smart way to go with this. The book doesn't really stand out, but folks who pick it up out of curiosity will find a fairly solid story to go with it.

SPARKS #2
William Katt's monthly superhero noir thriller continues as masked vigilante Ian Sparks discovers the dark side to heroism. Going after the nation's most notorious super criminal leaves Sparks' life and reputation in ruins.

Jim: If you did not sign up for issue #1, go back and get this and then hop onboard for issue #2, which really takes this series down a dark road. This is a golden age super hero comic, done with a strong modern noir writing style. Great story + Great art = Great Comic.

Lee: Jim and I have been lucky enough to read issue two already and it's just as good as the first. It is highly recommended!

SPARKS #3
Catastrophic Comics
by Christopher Folino & Jm Ringuet
William Katt's monthly superhero noir thriller continues as masked vigilante Ian Sparks reaches his darkest hour just as a figure from his past resurfaces.

Jim: This is a great series and I have had the privilege to read issue #3 & #4 already. I can't wait for issue #5. Film noir, done with a golden age super hero twist – FANTASTIC! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Lee: Agreed. One of the best new books to emerge in the last 6 months.

Broken Frontier
"This book opens up firing on all cylinders and to be honest a book has not excited me as much as this one from the first issue. Not Proof, not Transhuman, heck I can't think of anything that I genuinely enjoyed this much from the get go. Get it added to your pull list now, this is going to be something."

"I'm going to take a rare break from blogging about myself to mention an independent comic that a friend of mine, Derek, is editing. Quality independent comics can sometimes have a hard time finding an audience, especially those coming from a new company. So keep this one in mind when you place your orders at your local comic shop. From everything I've seen, it looks (and reads) excellent.

The company publishing it was started by William Katt, who most of us probably know best from Greatest American Hero (did he ever learn to use that suit?). He was smart to bring Derek on board and Team Catastrophic has put together a comic that is well worth your time."

"I've already read the first 2 issues, and I am hooked! Forgive my fanboy gushing, but it's not everyday that you get to read something from one of your heroes, especially something this engaging. After all, 'it's one thing to go to the Super Bowl, but it's another thing to win it'. I can honestly say that this is a winner, and if you like your superheroes with a side of 'noir', Sparks will not disappoint!"
